2gether in Loss — Delivering The Bereavement Journey® in Community Spaces
Katy Tutt
Pam, founder of 2gether in Loss has thoughtfully adapted The Bereavement Journey® to be delivered outside traditional church settings, whilst it still includes the optional 7th faith session.
This change arose as a result of feedback from individuals who felt uneasy attending a programme in church. Whether this was due to associations with funerals held in church, or concerns about religious content, by relocating the programme to neutral venues, Pam has been able to create an inclusive space for people of all backgrounds, to process grief with dignity and support.
The first The Bereavement Journey® course at Charlotte’s Brightside Community Hall concluded in August 2025 receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Participants shared that the experience helped them to realise that the emotions they were experiencing were valid and normal, therefore dispelling fears that they were “going mad.” Each session offered a compassionate environment where individuals could explore their grief, feel understood, and begin to make sense of their journey.
A unique feature was the Waterfall of Grief visual, which illustrates the grieving process in a single image. Pam’s husband, and local artist, created a striking A2 canvas adaptation that served as a powerful centrepiece throughout the sessions, sparking a need for reflection and meaningful conversation.
Overview
Two new The Bereavement Journey® groups began at Charlotte’s Brightside in late September 2025, offering both morning and afternoon sessions. The evening course from 10th Sep - 16th October & the morning from 26th September - 14th November.
A new evening session was hosted at Wallaseyan’s Club, who also donated their venue.
Owens Funeral Directors donated printing support, and their director, who has experienced personal bereavement attended sessions and advocated for the programme.
Pam and the team have been invited to participate in Owens’ annual memorial event, where they will have the opportunity to speak to attendees about The Bereavement Journey®.
Ongoing Support
A new support group has been launched, open to anyone who wishes to join. This is a creative space where attendees can gather to make handcrafted gifts.
Monthly art classes will further enrich the community offering and be a safe and relaxed space to gather.
Participants from previous courses at St Mary’s and Charlotte’s Brightside have continued attending and formed lasting friendships — a testament to the programme’s enduring impact.
Overall the work has been made possible due to the generous venue donations from Charlotte’s Brightside Youth Club and Wallaseyan’s Club. Funding from the Wirral Together, and JustGiving has secured delivery of the Autumn 2025 and Spring 2026 sessions.
