BBC Songs of Praise for All Souls’ Day features AtaLoss and Riverside Church, Moseley

3rd November 2025

We were delighted to see AtaLoss’ work, including The Bereavement Journey®,  featured in this Sunday’s BBC Songs of Praise episode for All Souls’ Day, a time in the church calendar dedicated to remembering those who have died and offering comfort to the bereaved.

Presented by the Reverend Kate Bottley, the programme explored how faith communities are supporting people through bereavement and loss. Such themes are at the very heart of AtaLoss’s work. Kate visited Riverside Church in Moseley, Birmingham, the UK’s first officially bereavement-friendly church, which has embraced The Bereavement Journey and our holistic approach to helping people navigate life after loss.

During the episode, Kate spoke with Yvonne Tulloch, founder and CEO of AtaLoss, who shared her own personal experience of bereavement and how it inspired her to establish the charity. AtaLoss now provides a national signposting website and equips hundreds of churches and community organisations across the UK to run The Bereavement Journey. This is a trusted and structured seven-session course that helps people process their bereavement and find hope for the future.

The programme also featured a fourth-generation funeral director, who reflected on the role of faith in supporting those facing loss and called for bereavement education to be part of the national school curriculum. A businesswoman also shared how her faith was rekindled following the sudden death of her husband, highlighting the importance of compassionate support in rebuilding life after loss.

Reflecting on the broadcast, Yvonne Tulloch said:

“It’s wonderful to see churches across the country stepping up to support those who are bereaved — of all faiths and none — in such compassionate and practical ways. Through initiatives like The Bereavement Journey®, churches are becoming safe spaces where people can find understanding, hope and community at a time when they need it most. I’m delighted to see this movement growing, and I’m so encouraged by the difference it’s making in people’s lives. I want to see The Bereavement Journey® available in every town, city and rural area throughout the UKso that everybody who is bereaved can have access to community support”

AtaLoss is proud to see its vision of ensuring that bereaved people everywhere can access timely, appropriate and holistic support being realised through partnerships with churches and community groups nationwide.
